Yep, you're right - STAY AWAY from mobilnet panama - they are worthless. I had similar problems with mobilphone panama or mobilnet panama - worst experience so far in Panama, and that's saying something.

It is now 5 days and still no reply from 6 different people at mobilnet panama, or mobilphone panama. I have sent 5 emails now each to 6 different people - not a single reply. This morning there was no internet at all, and my speed issues continue - this morning registered through panama mobilphone own speed test at 0.09k. The company charges over $50 per month for a 512k connection, while 10 miles down the road you can get 2mb for around $20. Mobilnet Panama seems to operate in areas with no competition and so charges (read gouges) customers way more than the going rate. Do they really think customers won't jump ship as soon as an alternative is available. based on my experiences with panama mobilnet or panama mobilphone they just don't seem to care about their customers at all, and I want to spread the word. I personally am looking to move purely on the grounds that i NEED internet service and I really don;t want to rely on mobilnet panama as they have proven that they cannot be relied upon. If you have a choice I would recommend that you do NOT use mobilphone / mobilnet panama, and help spread the word.

It is now 4 emails to 6 different people at mobilnet panama who speak English (so a total of 24 emails) and not a single reply from anyone in 2 days - incredible.
My current speed registers at 0.06k - which means I can basically do nothing.
Does anyone know the owner or general manager of mobilnet panama or mobilphone panama?

I used mobilnet panama in boquete as there were no other options. The speed and the support were a joke and I eventually moved to another location and got better, faster and more reliable internet from another provider. Let's face it, customer service is a joke in Panama anyway, but mobilnet panama was just beyond words. I guess panama mobilnet is owned by mobilphone panama?

Gloria, ya gotta have a little faith.

There is an overhead to every endeavor. Unfortunately in Panama and other parts of Latin America low government salaries get supplemented a little to make up for low wage scales. That´s how business and government operate here.

On the other hand, Gloria, the Panama Canal runs more efficiently now that the United States is not in charge.

I have lived in Calidonia, Carisquilla, and Bella Vista before moving to el Cangrejo. There are, in fact, lots inexpensive, safe, locations in Ciudad Panama. I find the cheapest and best verduras on Via Espana in Calidonia.

My vote for a barrio for living for less in Panama is for Bella Vista, Calle 44 or 43. There are some nice old homes and now that the housing boom has slowed a little some of these properties are in less danger of being bulldozed under for another 33 story set of condo sameness.
